Tips for Your Private Video Lesson
When I go work with a client giving a lesson I always ask what they want to achieve from lessons. I like to find out what are the burning issues. Discuss any handling or riding difficulties / problems and how they feel about them. I like to find out what they want to improve and their short term and medium term goals are. I also meet their horse and the horse has its’ say too. So I get a full, detailed and colourful picture. Think of your video lesson as a way of you and your horse telling me what you want help with. So forget being perfect, try and just be yourself, forget the camera is there and just do what you and your horse do. To maximise your video lesson it is better I see the problems and errors, that way I can give you targeted and appropriate feedback.

The video is max 10 minutes to maximise this here are some tips
Tip – Think of just one aspect of your horsemanship you want to work on. Focus on that, and video this one aspect. By doing this you will find in the feedback it will uncover not only the path towards achieving this goal, but other aspects to enrich your horsemanship next steps. Please note that if this is an equine behaviour issue the trick will be to get it on video, as for sure horses rarely perform these to request.
Tip - Or get a good friend to video you with your horse doing your usual things and then select the 10 minute part of the video you feel highlights the issue(s).
Tip - Or imagine you booked me for a lesson and you are showing me what you can do (as they say the good, the bad and the ugly).

Supporting notes for your video.
It is up to you what you want to tell me about you and your horse. Here are just a few suggestions of what you may like to tell me:-
- Information about you, how long you have been riding, how long you have owned your horse, what you enjoy doing, what is tricky etc…
- Information about your horse, how old is your horse, how long have you owned your horse, what you know about your horses’ past, what your horse likes doing, what is difficult for your horse, etc…
- What your plans / goals are, how long you have been working towards your goals, what has worked, what has not. In your notes include what you want to work on and achieve. etc…
- What is normal, better than normal and worse than normal? Tell me what you think about the video footage in terms of the normal scale.
- If there are confidence issues, tell me about what is going on.
Your video lesson could look at:-
- Horse behaviour issues
- Confidence issues
- Handling or groundwork
- Riding
- Etc…It is your agenda.
